Premier League Match Time: Chelsea Vs Everton

It’s Premier League match time when champions Chelsea host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, December 4.

Everton are coming off a demoralising 4-1 defeat at home to West Brom in match week 15. barring Cahill and to an extent Pienaar, the other players were virtually absent on what can only be termed an off-day for the Toffees. Moyes’ charges came into this game hoping to break a run of winless games that got extended to six on the trot with this loss. As a result, Everton are hovering close to the relegation mine, and the away game against Chelsea couldn’t have come at a more inappropriate time.

Arteta got sent off after attempting to stamp on West Brom’s Jara, but it would be a travesty against the Baggies to suggest that they won because of the send-off. Di Matteo’s squad were the better side on the day and they had the wherewithal to exploit the opportunity after catching Everton on their off-day.

Chelsea were involved in a 1-1 stalemate away at St James’s Park against Newcastle. And with the failure to bank full points in the match, Chelsea conceded the Premiership lead to Manchester United.

Chelsea have banked just four points from their last five games and that is the story of the declining champions who began the season on a high note. the game began on a false not when a defensive error from Alex gave Newcastle a sixth minute lead.

To their credit, Ancelotti’s squad  hit back with several attacks on the Magpies’ goal, and they were made to work hard by a compact Newcastle backline and midfield. And on the break, their efforts paid dividend when Salomon Kalou scored a well-crafted goal.

The second half was a tale of missed opportunities by Kalou and Drogba, as Newcastle hung on, and even tested the Chelsea goal on a couple of occasions.

Head to head, in 22 league matches between the sides, Everton have an overwhelming 13-1 advantage over the Toffees, with 8 games ending without result. Interestingly, that solitary loss came when Chelsea travelled to Goodison Park in February this year.

A wounded Chelsea have a point or two to prove and a dispirited Everton could provide fodder at Stamford Bridge

The following men comprised Chelsea’s starting eleven against Newcastle: Cech, Bosingwa, Alex, Ivanovic, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Malouda, Anelka, Drogba and Kalou, with the following substitutes: Turnbull, Ferreira, Sturridge, Van Aanholt, Bruma, Kakuta and McEachran.

Everton had the following players in their starting eleven against West Brom: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Pienaar, Cahill, Heitinga, Arteta, Yakubu and Anichebe. The substitutes were Mucha, Bilyaletdinov, Saha, Beckford, Coleman, Rodwell and Baxter.

Manchester City Set to Pounce on Hapless West Ham United

It is not the best of times for the reigning English Premier League Champions Manchester City. They are currently trailing runaway league leader Liverpool by a whopping 25 points and to add salt to injury, they were recently suspended for two seasons by UEFA from UCL competition for breaching the Financial Fair play rules.

Against the backdrop of uncertainties surrounding the suspension and the noise it has generated, comes the rearranged premier league fixture against West Ham United which was initially fixed for Sunday last week. The game has been rescheduled to take place today on the 19th of February 2020 at the Etihad stadium by 7:30 PM.

What to expect from Manchester City Players

The mood from the player has been positive, with a lot of the players not getting distracted by the recent happening surrounding the club. Leroy Sane, Benjamin Mendy, and Aymeric Laporte are all back training with the main squad, with just Raheem Sterling out injured. The players would be itching to make a positive start to their premier league campaign that has seen some negative results over the past few months.

Manchester City got humbled by Tottenham 2-0 away in their last match and it was a bitter pill to swallow for the EPL reigning Champions. Recent results have not been too bad, with Aston Villa getting hammered 6-1 at Villa Park, drawing 2-2 at home to Crystal Palace and winning 1-0 against Sheffield United at home. Expect a very hungry and passionate City side tonight!

What to expect from West Ham United

It is so difficult to see West Ham avoiding a defeat against a wounded team like Manchester City. West Ham has been on the down slide in the past four premier league games. Drawing 1-1 at home to Everton, losing 4-1 against a very good Leicester City side, losing 2-0 at home to runaway leaders Liverpool and drawing 3-3 at home against Brighton in a game they were expected to win. They currently have some key players down with injuries.

Felipe Anderson is a doubt for tonight’s encounter, having just recovered from a back injury. Jack Wilshere has a Groin injury while their Russian Star Andril Yarmolenko has a tear in his abductor’s muscle. It will no doubt be an herculean task to grab a point from the game considering their poor run of form lately. They can however still spring a surprise as their manager David Moyes is an experienced tactician.

How the team may Line up

Predicting Pep Guardiola’s line up can be very difficult, as he has been known to spring to surprises lately. Ederson is however expected to keep his position between the stick, with Fernandinho, Otamendi, Walker, and Mendy making up the back line. Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and David Silva will occupy the midfield, with Mahrez and Bernardo Silva operating the flanks. Sergio Aguero can be trusted to lead City’s attack. Pep can call on Jesus, Joao Cancelo, Laporte, and Phil Foden if needed.

For West Ham United, Lukasz Fabianski is the favorite in goal, with Angelo Ogbonna, Issa Diop, Aaron Cresswell, and Ryan Fredericks holding forth in defense. Veteran Mark Noble, Balbuena, Declan Rice will hold the midfield, while Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek, Sebastien Haller, and Robert Snodgrass will lead West Ham attack. This game is remarkable in the sense that it may be the last homecoming for former City star, Pablo Zabaleta, who is adored by City fans and family.

Result Prediction

It is hard to see West ham escaping a defeat away to Manchester City. I see City grabbing all 3 points with a 4-0 victory. Kun Aguero most likely going to be on the score sheet to add to his 16 goals tally. It will be an exciting game to watch as City are known for their entertaining pattern of play.

Premier League: Drogba, Malouda, Berbatov Head Golden Boot Roster

Didier Drogba’s goal for Chelsea against Arsenal on Sunday was his sixth of the ongoing Premier League season, and the strike helped the Ivorian draw level with teammate Florent Malouda and United’s Dimitar Berbatov as joint top-scorer in the competition.

Drogba got the first hat-trick of the Premiership season on its opening day playing at home against West Brom. Chelsea won that match 6-0. Thereafter, the Ivorian has had three goals in six matches, in all of which he started for the Stamford Bridge squad.

Interestingly, all of Drogba’s goals have come in home matches, one each against Stoke City, Blackpool and Arsenal, games that Ancelotti’s squad won 2-0, 4-0 and 2-0, respectively.

Like Drogba, Malouda opened his scoring account in Chelsea’s season opener against Albion, in which he found the back of the rival net twice.

But unlike Drogba, Malouda has not restricted his scoring to home matches. His third goal came in Chelsea’s 6-0 away win against Wigan, his fourth came in the home match against Stoke City, his fifth and sixth in the home game with Blackpool on September 19.

Also, unlike Drogba, Malouda has not been in the starting eleven in every match. In fact, in the West Ham match on September 11, the Frenchman came on as a late second half substitute in the 84th minute.

Berbatov has been Manchester United’s saviour this season, with Wayne Rooney’s truancy giving the Bulgarian an opportunity to prove that the Old Trafford squad are not a one-man outfit, centred around Rooney.

Berbatov began his scoring, with a strike in United’s opener at Old Trafford against Newcastle on August 15. He did not add to his tally, in the next game with Fulham, played away at Craven Cottage. The Bulgarian striker’s second goal of the season came in his team’s 3-0 win at home against West Ham, on August 28.

Berbatov’s next goal came in the away game against Everton, that ended in a 3-3 draw, followed by a hat-trick against Liverpool. His third goal came in injury time, ensuring that United banked full points from that match.

Berbatov’s exclusion from the starting eleven in the away match against Sunderland has raised more than a few eyebrows. But following Sir Alex’s refusal to talk to the media after the Liverpool match where the media went to town over the United manager’s comment on Torres, nobody is able to discuss the rationale of Fergie’s team selection, with the big man.

Sunderland’s Darren Bent and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez have both scored five goals each this season, and are hot on the heels of the top three, in contention for the Golden Boot.

Gibraltar – What to See Outside Town

There’s plenty to see and do outside the obvious destinations of the Gibraltar’s town centre and even the Upper Rock. Gibraltar has a quieter, less frequented side with natural beauty and Mediterranean views not to be missed.

Alameda Botanical Gardens

The gardens serve as a lush, peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of town. Located next to the cable car station, just 10 minutes walk from the town centre, the Alameda Gardens have been part of Gibraltar for many years. Here you’ll find an impressive and well organised array of tree and plant species, along with quiet areas where you can picnic or rest in the shade. A small children’s park lies at the lower edge of the park alongside the Alameda open-air theatre, a magical location used during summer for local performances.

Don’t miss the charming wildlife conservation park which is part of the top edge of the gardens. Run by 3 full-time workers and a number of dedicated volunteers, the wildlife park is home to abandoned or homeless animals, many of whom have come over on ships. Currently it’s home to many species of bird, terrapins, reptiles, bats, prairie dogs, pigs, monkeys and more.

100 Ton Gun

Of only four 100 ton guns ever created in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, two remain in Gibraltar and the other two are stationed in Malta. Although they were never fired, the two 100 ton guns could easily reach ships in the Straits of Gibraltar.

Parson’s Lodge

This is an old British fort was built to protect Rosia Bay and naval galleons used to use it to collect ammunition and provisions during war. After the British victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, the damaged British Flagship, HMS Victory was brought to Rosia Bay. On board the ship, the dead body of Admiral Nelson was found inside a barrel of brandy tied around the central mast. His body was later transferred to another ship and taken back to England for burial.

Beaches

If you like a natural, quiet beach in the summer, you’d be well advised to go to Spain’s Atlantic beaches to find it. However, beaches in Gibraltar offer their own interest in terms of local atmosphere and if you don’t mind the crowds, they can make for a good day out.

Most people come laden with picnics and drinks in cool boxes, umbrellas and chairs, ready for a full day out, though beaches have basic kiosk facilities for emergency drinks, sweets or ice creams.

Catalan Bay

The Bay dates back to the 18th century when Genoese fishermen settled here. Today it’s a favourite summer haunt for beach-loving Gibraltarians. As it’s located on the eastern side of the Rock, the sun sinks behind the summit earlier than on the western side, offering a welcome break from the summer’s heat. Don’t forget to stop for morning coffee at on the terrace of the Caleta Hotel and enjoy its panoramic views in exquisite surroundings. Catalan Bay has a popular fish restaurant at the top of the hill and a few kiosks for sweets or ice creams.

Sandy Bay

Continuing 200 metres along the road from Catalan Bay, you reach Sandy Bay, another popular beach, also with a small kiosk for emergency refreshments. The beach is flanked by the apart hotel resort, Both Worlds.

Eastern Beach

This is the largest stretch of the three sandy beaches located on the Eastern side of the Rock and it is very popular with locals, being the nearest to town.

Camp Bay

On the western side of the Rock, just past Rosia Bay (a concreted lido in much need of repair), Camp Bay sits just past a short rock tunnel. At first sight, to be honest, it seems rather an ugly concrete lido jutting out to sea. But take a closer look and you’ll find it’s ideal for the kids with its large swimming pool and toddlers’ pool, plus play park, as well as a couple of kiosks, a bar/restaurant and a small sandy cove. Here you can also enjoy the great views across the Straits to Spain and the many ships anchored offshore.

Little Bay

Follow through another tunnel and you’ll arrive at Little Bay, another lido with pools and facilities on a smaller scale than in Camp Bay. The sea water in Camp Bay and Little Bay is generally crystal clear and considered to be the cleanest in Gibraltar.

The Marinas

There are two marinas in Gibraltar: Ocean Village and Queensway Quay. Both offer top class berthing and facilities, as well as a number of classy quayside restaurants and bars. Ocean Village is the larger one of the two and consequently offers a greater choice of bars and terraced restaurants, as well as several real estate agencies and boutiques.

From both marinas, various companies offer boat trips to view dolphins and/or whales in the wild. The boats not only allow you to see these magnificent creatures close at hand but you can also to enjoy excellent views of the Rock, Spain and Morocco, making for an unforgettable experience.

Europa Point

Still crying out for government investment, this stunning tourist spot offers its own form of natural beauty in the breathtaking and expansive views it offers. This is the southernmost tip of Europe, from where you stand overlooking the Straits of Gibraltar, between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic seas. On a clear day it is easy to see houses in Morocco and the mystical Rif Mountains.

Mosque

Built in 1997, the mosque is logically located at Europa Point facing Morocco, to serve the Muslim population of Gibraltar. The mosque may be visited at certain times of the day.

The Lighthouse

Sitting at the precarious Europa Point, this lighthouse has witnessed many a wrecked ship that has fallen to the perils of fierce winds and currents to be found at this point. The lighthouse dates back to 1841 and stands 49 metres above sea level with a range of around 37 kilometers.

Dolphin and whale watching

The warm waters of the Mediterranean make Gibraltar an ideal place for dolphins. Regular dolphin safaris leave Gibraltar for one or two hour tours of the Bay of Algeciras, home to a large community of dolphins. The boat trips depart from the popular marina Bay for anything up to a few hours or a full day. Throughout the year long-finned pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins, common and striped dolphins can be seen regularly. From April to June sperm whales migrate through the Strait of Gibraltar and in July/August orcas come to the area. Occasionally, you’ll be lucky enough to catch sight of a fin whale, the second largest species of whale.

For further information on the above, contact Gibraltar Tourist Office, tel. 00350 200 45000.

South American Footballers Who Have Played in the Premier League

Reading reports in the papers recently about the likes of Neymar, Nilmar and Sergio Aguero expressing a desire to play their football in the English Premier League got me thinking about the amount of South American’s who are currently playing, or have previously played in England.

Players from nine South American countries have played in the EPL with the majority coming from Argentina and Brazil. Although there have been a few failures, many of the players have adapted well to the Premier League’s style of play. Amongst the successes are Juninho, Carloz Tevez and Gilberto, the main failures being Veron, Forlan and Roque Junior.

Manchester United top of the list of English Premier League clubs who have signed the most South American players with 10 players but Liverpool are a close second with 9. Manchester United currently have 4 South Americans in their squad while Liverpool have 5 players.

English Premier Football League Game Week 22 Match Preview – Part 1

Blackburn v Newcastle

Blackburn rooted second from bottom entertain Newcastle at Ewood Park. This see’s Sam Allaydace former team come to Blackburn. Newcastle are in poor form this season. A number of players are rumoured to be leaving St James Park. Shay Given has been the one exception, his saves alone managed to keep Liverpool at bay, and for that Arsenal have been altered to his goal keeping prowess.

Blackburn have picked up a few points since Ince was sacked earlier on. With Santa Cruz rumoured as wanting to join Hughes at City, his goals will be needed this weekend if Blackburn are to get anything from the game.

Game Prediction: Draw 1:1

Bolton v Manchester United

Bolton Wanderers lost their previous league game away against Arsenal and only won once in their last six games. They have lost five games in the last six. They have only managed to score 4 times in this period.

Bolton have been linked to Jamie Bullard from Fulham but as yet have not been able to meet the asking price.

Manchester United won their last game 1-0 at home against Wigan, and are the leagues in form team. With Rooney out for a few weeks after scoring the winning goal against Wigan, Tevez should start the match.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Bolton at the Reebok last season, but the champions are in top form and will be looking to take first place from Liverpool by 5pm. And with Bolton having been on a dreadful run, there can only be one team in this match.

Game Prediction: Man Win 1:0.

Why Sales Letters Fail

No headline. Boring headline. Opening sentence fails to grab attention.

No PS. If you HAD written a decent headline and opening sentence, a PS would provide people who want your product but don’t have time to read your sales patter the chance to act now.

No sense of humour. Does anyone really need another grumpy supplier in their lives?

No footnote*****

No call to action. Doesn’t encourage the reader to actually DO anything.

Talks about the writer. «I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce myself». Pointless.

Lame salutation. «Dear Mr/Mrs/Ms surname», or «Dear Sir/Madam» is what the power company calls me when they want to come and read my meter.

Weak credibility and relevance statements. Full of adjectives and superlatives. Short on facts. «Bespoke, end-to-end, multi-dimensional integrated solutions to discerning clients». Yak. Yak, yak, yak!

Insulting motivational sentences designed for gullible idiots. «Thousands of companies just like yours are already gaining this competitive advantage».

Unbelievable product/service claims.

«Tells» about a product but does nothing to make readers want to know more about it. OK, you’ve told me. So what! Do you want your stamps back or something?

Crap Design. People who write bad sales letters always seem to choose the tackiest fonts.

Too Clever. Initial clever twist causes the reader to pause in his thinking. Good. But doesn’t use this pause to elicit action. Very Bad. Subsequent clever twists have less impact and lead the reader further away from action. Fatal. By the way, what DO you want the reader to do? Why don’t you just write a letter and say so?

Too lazy. Whoever designed the sales letter templates in Microsoft Office needs to get a life.

Too many «buzz» words. There is a certain type of person who is turned on by the words «How To». I’m not one of them.

Gimmicks. «Power Offers» with «Bonus Pile-Ons». Assuming that we’re all lazy procrastinators who need some kind of artificial deadline or contrived scarcity to motivate us to do anything.

Canned testimonials from people no one has ever heard of. «…Your fine booklet How To Make Money From Customers Who Ask For A Refund is an absolute gold mine of information. I thought I knew a lot about writing sales letters but your insight has opened my eyes. I only wish I’d had this valuable knowledge sooner…»

Too impersonal. Pitching prospects instead of talking to people.

Too cute. Attempt to convey feeling of excitement with unrelated graphics and artwork tires the reader’s eyes and disrupts the flow of the message.

Sign-off too perfunctory. «Thank you for your consideration».

Sign-off too over-the-top. «Don’t hesitate! Take advantage of this amazing opportunity!».

Sign-offs are an art form in themselves and if you haven’t got your head around writing headlines, opening sentences and footnotes you are unlikely to have mastered the finer points of leaving a good impression when saying good-bye.

Goodbye!

***** If you had a sense of humour, you might have thought of a joke that your readers would enjoy and a well-placed footnote might have given it an interesting twist.

How to Grow Your Day Nursery Without Spending a Fortune

What is the best way to promote a business in the child care industry and ultimately grow? Well there are many ways in which a nursery, pre school, kindergarten or other day care establishment can do this including advertising in local media such as radio, television, newspapers or magazines. These are all perfectly valid ways in which to put the name of your day care facility in front of the parents of children who you want to become your customers.

The trouble with promotion that involves advertising on any scale is that it is very often expensive and unless it is done extremely well, it can prove to be a costly and ultimately, unsuccessful way to promote your nursery. When times are tough and money is tight, using advertising as a way to promote your nursery or day care might not even be a viable option even if you can haggle with the media on their often extremely high rate card rates.

So what can a nursery do to make sure their name stays in front of potential customers without having to spend money they simply might not have? Well the first thing that a child care provider could do is look close to home by focusing on their existing customers and parents of their existing children. Word of mouth, recommendations and referrals are perhaps the very best way in which nursery schools can spread news about their facilities for little or no cost.

A customer that comes your way via a referral is very often the best type of customer as the fact that someone has already used you and recommended you is a highly valuable third party endorsement of your facilities. And the beauty of referrals and recommendations is that so few nurseries and kindergartens actually ask for them. Therefore is you have no or a limited budget in which to market your day care facility then make sure you and your staff ask existing parents if they are happy with the child care their kids are receiving. And when they hopefully come back with a resounding yes, make sure you ask the magic question. The magic question being, who else do you know whose children would benefit from receiving first class child care?

All parents want the best for their children so if you own, manage or work at a day care facility with a good reputation and that you are proud of, your existing customers will most likely be more than happy to recommend you to other people they know. In many cases they will actually be flattered that you have gone to the trouble of asking them.

How Soccer Fixtures Change Your Life

I support Arsenal Football Club, but this article is not really about them. Just replace Arsenal with your own team and that should suffice. Yes, I am a fan, and I do go to see them at The Emirates Stadium several times a season, but again that’s not really the point.

When you are a true fan of your beloved club, then it doesn’t really matter if you go to see them or not. It’s nice to see them play in the flesh of course, soak up the atmosphere, cheer them on and be with like minded people in the crowd and feel part of it, but it doesn’t have to be like that.

You see, when you are a true fan, just knowing that your team is playing is enough to get you excited, nervous, dysfunctional and be difficult to be with.

For many years I was unable to go to see my team play, but I still felt the anguish, the pain, the passion all the time the match was being played.

If the match is televised, then great, you can arrange your life and let your loved ones know that you will be indisposed for a couple of hours whilst you live every moment of the game.

Your mood afterward, of course, is completely dependent on the result of the match. Win and you are on cloud nine and the world is a great and wonderful place. Lose and life is barely worth living.

Whatever happens, your mind will still be on the match for hours or perhaps days afterward, reliving the key moments of the game with fondness or with frustration of what might have been.

Such are the emotions of the ‘real’ sports fan. You must feel the passion, hurt if they lose, cry with joy and swell with pride when they win. How could it be any other way?

Planning your life around the season’s football fixtures, is a very important part of modern life. There is no point in arranging to go to a dinner party, or asking over relatives when your team is playing. You know your heart will not be in it.

That’s why at the start of the season it’d best to mark in your diary all the fixtures for the coming season, so you can plan your life accordingly.

Many non-sports fans will not understand this devotion and it may seem obsessive, but ask a real supporter and you will get the same answer.

Even if you cannot physically get to see the match, and the game is not televised, it makes little difference. If your team is playing, then it is sweaty palms and anxiety for the duration of the match regardless. You can be out shopping with the wife or washing the car, but your thoughts will be elsewhere, willing the team to do well. There is nothing that can be done about this, it comes with the territory.

Plan your life accordingly.

Premier League Preview: Blackburn Vs West Ham

Blackburn Rovers host relegation favourites West Ham on Saturday, December 18, in match week 18.

Blackburn are coming off a 2-1 loss in a Lancashire derby away to Bolton. barring an 89th minute strike by Holden, Blackburn could have salvaged a point when M Diouf brought them level a minute earlier after Bolton had taken the lead through Muamba on 65 minutes.

Sam Allardyce will be more than annoyed that his charges did not exploit their one-man advantage in the last third after the sending off of Bolton’s Mark Davies. Barring a first minute opportunity squandered by Roberts, the Rovers did not control the game in the first third. They came back to life on 34 minutes when Roberts running through off a Jones pass was thwarted by Zat Knight. Roberts was the stand out player on the day and had a hand in M Diouf’s late equaliser.

West Ham slumped to a 3-1 loss to Manchester City in match week 17. The Hammers have a long hard winter ahead as they stay at the foot of the table as the Premiership nears the half-way stage. They were outplayed by Man City as Spector and Parker failed to keep up with Mancini’s charges who controlled the midfield.

Head to head, the Hammers lead the Blues 5-1 in their last eight league games. The most recent, hosted at Upton Park by the Hammers, ended in a goalless stalemate.

Blackburn have lost just two of eight home games while winning four and drawing two. West Ham are yet to win on the road, drawing three and losing five of eight played away from home.

Even as the Hammers bid to get out of the relegation mine, they have their task cut out against a team with a good home record.

Blackburn’s starting eleven against Bolton had Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Olsson, Emerton, Jones, Pedersen, M Diouf and Roberts. Dunn, Diouf and Hoilett featured as substitutes.

West Ham had the following men in their starting eleven against Man City: Green, Faubert, Tomkins, Upson, Ben-Haim, Barrera, Spector, Parker, Stanislas, Piquionne and Obinna. Hines, Cole and Dyer were used as substitutes.
