The GENIUS Way Liverpool Beat Newcastle With 10 Men

Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool was the shock result of the Premier League weekend. Following a goal from Anthony Gordon and a red card for Virgil Van Dijk, things looked desperate for Jurgen Klopp’s side but a calculated risk over where to commit players allowed them to stay in a game that Darwin Nunez would eventually win for them.

Brilliant. I couldn't work out what was going on at all and why Newcastle stopped getting through the middle into the last third. Perfect explanation. Sorry for your loss. Nunez would have hit row Z with both those last season but Klopp's been in his head all summer.

I remember when Klopp took Diaz off after the red card, with a goal down and a man down, everyone was saying he had completely lost the plot. But this right here really shows why armchair fans are watching from home whilst Klopp's the one on the touchline. I couldn't break it down the way you have but it was clear that Liverpool had actually become a lot harder to breakdown after the sending off.

Same thing happened vs Bournemouth where the team suddenly looked a lot better after going down to 10 men. That said, I also wonder how much of this is a mentality thing given the post match comments made by both Szoboszlai after Bournemouth and Trent after Newcastle (both said the team felt aggrieved by the red card and the anger galavnised them). Because if this tactic works with 10 men, there's really no reason why it shouldnt be working better with 11.

I know you probably don't want input from Liverpool fans, but for whatever it's worth, this is a REALLY good analysis. I don't really have a tactical mind, so usually these sorts of videos go over my head. But you explained things in a way that was entertaining and informative and I was actually able to understand. That's a special ability that's pretty rare; usually people only have one skill or the other. Either the tactician mind or the entertainment factor. You've got both. Keep up the great work.

From a Liverpool fan, i give you mad respect for not only going through this analysis but doing so while hungover 😄. This video made me like and subscribe to the channel.

Hello Me Adam you are doing your YouTube channel about liverpool vs newcastle. Two of English football clubs FROM ENGLAND. AND YET YOU ARE WEARING OR ADVERTISING A BRAZIL SOCCER FEDERATION. MY QUESTION IS : WHY DON'T YOU WEAR AN ENGLAND JERSEY INSTEAD OF WEARING A BRAZIL JERSEY. AREN'T YOU PROUD TO BE A ENGLISH MAN??

Agreed that Liverpool did set up to manufacture those opportunities, however it was clearly visible that what Liverpool was trying to do and Newcastle already had the lead, not that they needed to get into the lead against 10 men. Salah had a similar chance moments earlier. I think its little naive on Newcastle's part to not counter Liverpool's approach. Specially given the fact that majority of Liverpool's goals against good teams are through counter attacks. Hopefully Newcastle will use this lesson to grow as a team.

Great insight to the tactical switch. You wouldn't believe there are actual Liverpool fans who say Klopp is the problem & not the owners lack of ambition in transfer market. The guy is easily up there as one of the best managers I've had the priviledge to watch in the last 35 years. If it wasn't for the genius of Pep, Klopp would have won more.

Make Eddie Howe take off the two best players on the pitch and kick the ball very hard off their centre back's butt so it deflects into the path of your striker for a 1v1?

This was a great video. Fantastic analysis of the game. As a Liverpool fan, I'm obviously delighted with the result but I was unaware of the genius tactics by Klopp until you pointed them out. I assumed we were defending as a unit while awaiting to catch Newcastle on the break. As it turned out, it was clever tactics that won out.

Shouldn’t of won Trent is the worse defender in the league and should of been sent off, Newcastle we’re robbed, nothing worse then a giro pushing Liverpool supporter
