Some good, balanced comments which is refreshing to see. I think you’ll be fine this season. We have now 2 genuine world class players in Botman at the back (can’t think of a better centre back in the premier league and he’s only 22) and Bruno as the midfield engine. Get the spine right of a team and what a difference it makes.

Sure you can finish mid table this season and good luck.

We have to many championship players, who are happy to pick up their money every week but don't have the fight or the bottle to win games, emery does need time but most of this squad need shipping out.

I didn't expect to beat Newcastle.
But I didn't expect the players to give up in the second half…Watkins and coutinho looked completely uninterested imo…cash is a poor defender regardless of the fact that Villa fans think he's the golden child…

This team are a disgrace 😤 gutless overpaid baby's I travelled a long way to watch that shite and I hope the new manager kicks their arse, Mings is a liability and a lazy shit I know Gerrard had no idea but this team did not help with their lack of passion and effort.

No other mangers done well in Aston villa so wait see unai does its discipline and tough love is what you need to all players now they can't learn if you dont tell them end of the day and mangers are they to discipline them keep the faith, anyway emiri looking at new players but how they fit them in

I said a few weeks ago that the players have zero footballing IQ. They are all as dull as dishwater. Several managers have tried to get a tune out of this crop. Big changes are needed if we are to push up the table & show some identity/consistency.

    Come on Unai

Yes, Gerard has left the building. But everything he built, is still in place. Last week's 4:0 win, cannot be the starting point of everything that is good to come from this day forward. Tuesday is the begining of a new era at Villa Park. I have to say I, for one, am excited. The Newcastle game, I didn't expect too much from. The whole feel around St James's Park must be miles apart from the feeling at Villa park at the moment and to draw comparisons between the two, is laughable. We have so much catching up to do. The manager they have in place is building a very sound environment to be around. We are no where near that. Hopefully, with the appointment of Emery will be the catalyst for change for the better and the ethos and identity of AVFC will be something the whole fanbase will get behind, and allow time for the club to go from strength to strength.

Spent 400 million on dross…. Who out of all that money spent has been a success…. Martinez for 20 million, and even his form isn't what it was…. So spunked 380 million …..that's on recruitment and anyone involved in those processes 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Really! How many times do you want to conditict yourselves. You were saying how much the Newcastle team is the same as last season and look how well they have progressed. Yet then you say this villa team can't do that and are a million miles away from Newcastle. If Gerrard was doing the same thing to these players as Bruce was doing at Newcastle, and if Emery is a better manager than Eddie Howe then we will improve and improve with these players. Danks is an attacking coach not a defensive coach, we went in with the exact same plan which Eddie Howe would have known and if anything made his tactics against villa for this game even easier. We matched them in the first half and yes fell away badly but it's some tweaks needed by emry and this team will look much better this season

Well, it wasn’t a thriller for the Villa at St James Park yesterday but more of a horror show which is in keeping with the halloween them but tomorrow we have our own Count Dracula 🧛‍♂️ taking over in Unai Emery. It certainly was a ghost of a performance compared to last week for Villa and a Monster of a display from Newcastle. Speaking of Newcastle for those who have never been, it is the city for a great night out and here is a video of the party after the game. Happy Halloween 🎃

After watching the game live and watching the highlights (with one eye closed) I have to agree the performance in the second half was shocking and with emery coming in now there will be a lot of players I think shaking in their boots what he has to say

  12. Colin

Physical and mental lightweights, the recruitment of players has been woeful, things are going to get worse before they get better I hope the fans are going to be patient

  13. Craig Taylor-Broad

If you think you feel bad, imagine how Emery feels watching it.

I think from now until the end of the season we're going to see some drab football from us. That's not an attack on Emery, I just think he's going to drill the team to make them hard to beat.

  14. David Webster

    Newcastle fan here,

I wouldn't be overly worried. Emery is a great manager and it takes time to instill a team spirit and organisation after you have just a shite manager. Howe took about 10 games to really start turning the results around you just need need give it time. Newcastle are destroying teams regularly at the minute so I wouldn't take too much from the gane

  15. Alan Evans

Newcastle really good team Watkins not good enough first touch crap can't finish not good enough. Need proper coach like Howe great job he's done they here to stay well done Newcastle utv 😂

  16. carl thomas

I think the shape was right and we have screamed for a 4231 formation all year. I still think that's the right formation and in the first half it was nip and tuck. The problem was the martinez substitution and the penalty. It completely threw us and it doesn't matter what formation we play when the chips are down we crumble. It's a mentality and a philosophy thing- we don't have anything to revert to when the pressure is on.

To be fair, Newcastle were clinical and very good but the stats were awful to be fair. Letting them get 20 shots off is unforgiveable

  17. Global Pilot

Some really great points and the comparisons are valid. We need a refresh and reset after the World Cup we’ll have Kamara back and potentially Carlos, it will be like 2 new signings. Along side whoever Emery brings in at Xmas. It could be a whole new team in the new year.

  18. John Kearney

What a stinker that second half was, completely capitulated, I'm gutted.
I truly hope Emery looks at that 2nd half against Newcastle, see's the players who were 2nd to the ball, gave away too much space to the opposition, threw the towel in and were shamefully weak.
It was an absolute disgusting performance in the 2nd half and these players who are on filthy money that do not perform who continue to rub it in our faces should have there contracts torn up and punted from the club. I am over this pathetic BS.
I would hasten to say the January window will be very busy for Aston Villa with what should be a clean out of all the deadwood, I could name 8 players on the current list that would be finding a new home right now, these player excuses have become boring and I'd reckon Uni Emery would probably agree with me.
The attitude of these players is absolutely unacceptable and to end up playing in the same manner as per usual in the 2nd half against Newcastle no matter the ladder positions after that great Brentford win is mindboggling, where's the leadership amongst the team FFs !!

  19. TheDrewit76

Lads, look how abjectly shite we(NUFC) were before Eddie took the helm. You’ve now pulled a master stroke in getting Emery on board and I’ve no doubt he’ll turn your side around. You’ve got some great players that just aren’t firing. Eddie is proof that a good manager can get a tune out of good players. Look what he’s done with Almiron and Joelinton. I know there’s been some bad blood between our clubs for the last few years, but I genuinely hope to see you guys punching your weight again. Good luck for the rest of the season (except when we play you again).

  20. Cloudy

Can't blame the manager anymore can we, that was woeful, another disgraceful performance, they've gone back again. What are they doing? Anyone that thinks this squad is good need to give their head a wobble & this game along with many others this past year proves that this lot aren't up to the task, at least half this squad needs shipping out when Unai gets here, everyone was garbage. 🤬😡

  21. CJ Jones

AV has bought poorly and has no identity as a team. Howe has instilled in his players and staff a spirit that they're all in it together. They are well drilled for every team they face. Howe isn't just a suit on the side lines, he is a beacon for what the club stands for.

  22. Mark Cooke

Uni Emery contacting his solicitors to try and get out of the new contract he's just signed 🤣 well I would if I was him.. were cursed …were cursed injury wise too… how over 350 million pound of players can't perform is beyond me.on the positive side Uni has great contacts in Europe and can attract some class players and especially from his last few clubs…we have to start with the defence..we can't do nothing with out a strong foundation…if we don't concede we don't loose… so defence is key..then we work out way up and out… we have a world class keeper in Martinez now we need 2 or 3 world class defenders.. people say we need strikers etc… we must make our back line has strong has possible …we have players in midfield and up front to do the business if managed properly which Emery will succeed at..

  23. Mark Cooke

AVFC giving us the rollercoaster like usual … destroy Brentford and then get destroyed today..yes Newcastle could beat anyone on there day and there form is awesome… the highlights showed Newcastle on the attack…wrong set up for Newcastle …they watched us at Brentford so they knew how to beat us …. Teams find it easy to score against us ..nothing lasts with out a strong foundation
