Newcastle continued their impressive resurgence under Eddie Howe with a valuable draw at West Ham that edged them five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Howe’s side are unbeaten in the league since Christmas, despite this result bringing their recent three-game winning run to an end.

Craig Dawson headed the opener for West Ham from Aaron Cresswell’s enticing free-kick after goalkeeper Martin Dubravka had earlier tipped a Jarrod Bowen effort onto the crossbar. But the visitors capitalised on a defensive lapse on the brink of half-time when Joe Willock guided a deft finish onto the far post and watched it creep narrowly over the line.

Newcastle remain 17th but are now five points clear of Norwich, while West Ham missed the chance to return to a Champions League place and stay fifth.

The reason why we look leggy is because we have played a load more games than many others and have the thinnest of squads, which in turn is why we don't look like a top 4 side. Without Europa, we'd be winning games like this….but not complaining. I said Newcastle will get out of it, and they will, despite the other results yesterday.

What? Im so confused. I was told Steve Bruce was a great manager and we were lucky to have him! Surely youd think,he was in charge seeing as he is so great!? Im just so baffled and confused! I was told eddie howe was the manager who got Bournemouth relegated and was worse.i just dont get it.. why didnt the great Steve Bruce get the man utd job?everton, watford, norwich why didnt he get these jobs?? Why did he only get a championship job with west brom? I really am so so lost im struggling to understand if someone is so good why he isnt getting the top job? Someone needs to explain it to me

Gutted that we have lost Trippier, St Max and Wilson but the lads still played well. A great point to earn on the road to a team ranked fifth in the league. I think the set up by Howe with high level of pressing have unsettled many teams this season which some many teams, including West ham have looked poor.
