Stupid question. 17th is as good as 12th this season. Who is going to remember were we finish this season in two years(unless we're relegated)?
Stay up and try to get into top 10 next season or even comfortably placed without worrying about relegation from the first fixture onwards

Cloud cuckoo land that lad that thinks we should be finishing 15th. The signings give us a chance, but we are still missing a striker as Wilson is out for the season and I'd hate to think what happens if Wood picks up a knock. Still 1 CB shy as well, but what will show if Howe can make the big decisions is what he does with Lascelles once Fernandez is back fully fit.

3:59 Completely disagree, We didn't just buy players to keep us up – you can say that about Wood, Burn & Targett not with Tripper and Bruno. If we stay up Trippier looks like he'll be our captain going forward and as for Bruno we didn't spend £48M on a 24 year old who isn't in his prime yet who is one of the best midfielders in Europe…Bruno is definitely for now and a big signing for the project moving forward.

Personally i think nufc gonna get relagated they got no goal scorer unless newcastle stick with the 1 – 0 victories and defend but thats not eddie howes style. The signing werent good enough do need attackers but we can still survive and personally we should survive this season everton won will help big time.

Stay up and do we think this will mean Eddie Howe will be replaced with a more "premium" manager ? Was Eddie Howe Simply the stop gap and possible championship manager.

I think it's a demonstrable fact that the level of performance under EH has improved hugely. Yes we've have a few blips but just look at the performance away at Liverpool and at home to MUFC. How unlucky were we against MUFC and Norwich. We definitely would not be in this mess if ED had managed the team from the outset. He's a decent man, intelligent man, says the right things during interviews; almost the antithesis of SB. He has been backed sensibly by the owners with 3 good signings and 2 outstanding ones. I'll take survival, anything else is a dream.

Eddie Howe has to be at least 15th ,16th otherwise YOUR OWNER IS GOING TO SACK HIM IF YOU STAY UP, his only chance is to ABSOLUTELY SMASH IT OR GET RELEGATED so they keep him cuz there's nothing better out there and they will then sack him when you come back up

We got into the position because of Ashleys greed and Steve Bruce s ineptitude. Wether we acted in time we will soon find out . are these new players an improvement on the old ? I would feel more confident had Wilson been in the team .

What matters most now is the results, us getting the wins where we can, no more goals being conceded from winning positions, no more silly howlers. Players must train their hardest, upped their work-rate to the fullest. The midfielders and strikers we have, must get the chances, goals we need to stay up. Our new players hitting the ground running, new defenders propping everything up more.

We have spent money on players the club, Eddie wanted, now he and his team need to make it all work, keep us up this season, nothing else matters until it is confirmed we are staying up or going down.

Pressure on Eddie to win games, the place doesn't matter. Spent over 90m and everyone expecting results now he's had a transfer window. I don't think we've added enough firepower and Wilson said so too. But I remain hopeful we can get get a few results to go our way and get this done. Last 4 games are not fun. In no order. Liverpool, man city, arsenal Burnley. That might actually be in order lol. Everton winning 4-1 doesn't help either. Good chance, we can out do Norwich.

It shouldn’t matter where u finish this season. There’s no difference between 17th and 10th this season. Both guarantee survival. If Eddie Howe keeps u up u gotta give him until the end of next season to see where he takes u. If he takes u down u get rid of him

  12. DarkByDesign

we're going to have to nick some games 1-0, still not convinced scoring goals until Wilson comes back, we need strikers in the summer and another CB we can't be carrying injuries whole season

  13. David Griffiths

I just wish we had more firepower upfront. I'm hoping the defensive capabilities of Bruno will mean the likes of Willock can get forward more and contribute with a few goals that we sorely need.

  14. James Fretwell

It's pretty obvious any Newcastle fan would take 17th at this moment in time, but we now have a team that (if we had just started the season) we would probably expect to finish around 10th, but we had such a poor start to this season, it's going to be a massive bonus to finish anything higher than 17th. I think we will see much better performance's from now on though, because Bruno is on another level, compared to anything we have had in a long time in midfield. All the players brought in have good characters, and that's massive when your in a relegation battle, so I'm more than happy with the window we had.

  15. Mick King

I think we lack firepower I think if Wilson had been fit now we would be okay – I think if we had got Lindgard we would have been okay – now I think it will be touch and go

  16. Andrew Field

My worry is if weghorst hits the ground running for Burnley and they get some good results! I feel Everton should be ok with the signings of vdb and Ali and a new manager it's Gona be very tough I hope we can do it

  17. Majestic Pillow

Loved this, would snap your hand off for 17th, it's all about staying in the league. This will potentially and hopefully be the last time we are involved in a relegation battle for the foreseeable. Team is better than 4-5 teams in the league which does also worry me as it gives flashbacks of the season under McClaren . Our record under Howe has been okay so far considering our awful Christmas fixtures. Fully expect to see results now. Cheers lads!
