Malta Airline Fights – Low Fares With Good Service

The small Mediterranean island of Malta’s holiday industry was saved by the entry into the market of low fare aiirlines, turning a worsening position just five years ago to an island that has an active tourism sector today.

With higher fares than other islands in the Mediterranean the number of vacations to Malta had been declining for some years, but eventually the authorities gave in to the inevitable and allowed Dublin based Ryanair to start flights to Malta – and the island has benefitted from increased visitor numbers since.

Now, other airlines are now flying to the island’s Luqa Airport, including two from the UK, easyJet and bmi, from not just the main British airports such as Gatwick, but Bournemouth, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle – with good news for holidaymakers in the north of Ireland Ireland that easyJet are to start a Belfast service in 2011.

The welcome news for passenegrs of the skies opening up to the low cost carriers is a wider choice of Malta flights for holidaymakers, with more a choice of departure times and which airport to fly from, as well as lower fares.

And while the British market is the biggest for her holiday industry, more tourists are coming from elsewhere as the airlines have opened more routes from other European cities – diversifying the tourist mix, becoming less dependent on British visitors, and increasing the net number of people spending money in the hotels, stores and other vacation related businesses.

The new routes include Milan and Rome in Italy, Barcelona, Madrid, Marseille, Seville, Stockholm, Valencia and Venice – allowing the Spanish, French, Italian and Swedish to be more likely to consider Malta for a week or two.

All very good news for the vacation industry. But it’s not just the lower airfares that those taking a holiday are benefitting from, as Malta’s flag carrier is winning awards for excellence, while lowering their own fares to compete with the low cost carriers.

This summer a satisfaction survey of passengers by the influential magazine Which? resulted in Air Malta being voted as one of the best, alongside Swiss Air, while the budget airlines were a lot less successful, certainly for Swiss and Malta flights.

It’s quite a fait accompli for the island’s national airline. Given that it’s a small nation with a population of under 450,000 there were justifiable worries that the airline might go bust as the rival low cost carriers cut fares. But Air Malta has not just competed well on price but provided a service that other – much bigger – airlines cannot match on standards.

Along with the good hotels Malta has, the island is now attractive not just to those who are considering a two week holiday in the sun, but also for those holidaymakers who want to visit for a long weekend. Increasingly spa hotels are an attraction, and some of the hotels have been winning awards themselves for excellence this year, all adding to her reputation among tourists from Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe.

The capital city is Valletta, and the main towns where people take Malta holidays are St Paul’s Bay, St. Julians and Mellieha – Mellieha has the best sandy beach and quite a few people who take villas as opposed to staying in a hotel choose to stay there, with the Santa Maria Estate gaining a reputation for villa breaks.

Taking a flight can be stressful and set a poor tone for the rest of a trip, but if you want your holiday to start from the moment you leave your home country it might be worthwhile shortlisting Malta as a destination.

Top Ten Breakfast Places in Orange County, California

My husband and I love to go out to breakfast. We even call it our weekly date. Orange County California has an abundance of different types to fun places to try. There are some that, quite honestly, I would have loved to have tried and included, but didn’t quite get the chance. Hopefully I will be able to have another chance to write another article about one of my favorite meals out and include them. For now, here are some of our favorite restaurants to start our day:

Plum’s Cafe: Costa Mesa. Located in a strip mall, this place is so popular that even during the weekdays you need to allow for a long wait. But it’ well worth it! The owner is an Oregon transplant who brings wonderful produce, coffee and artwork into her establishment. The menu has some very interesting items-my husband loves the coconut french toast, served with tropical fruit. I love the greek omelet. We both have trouble resisting the Oregon boysenberry muffins! My mom says the lamb/feta burgers served with field greens salad is the best. For my father-the dutch baby reigns supreme.

The Omelet Bar: Just a block up from Plum’s in yet another strip mall is this rather quirky little place. The wait staff dresses like Cyndi Lauper, but are very good. Lots of very good egg dishes, but good lunch menu also abounds. Lots of old Orange County memorabilia abounds on the wooden walls. The homemade apple butter is really terrific on the english muffins.

Las Brisas: Laguna Beach. Honestly, for us the food is highly over-rated, but the view of the Pacific is what makes this place a destination spot. Plus you can walk the beach trails and shop all over the city, providing you find a parking space!

The Cottage: Laguna Beach. Another local classic spot. Literally a cottage. Sometimes, this place has a dicey reputation, but all the same, it somehow remains a must try spot for vacationers.

Cafe Zinc: Laguna Beach. For the most part-vegetarian, but food is hearty enough that even a meat-lover like my husband doesn’t mind starting out the day here. Also has a cute little market attached to it, so you can try out a few of their goodies at home.

All the Ruby’s diners: It’s a chain, but popular with families. What can I say? Even my infant grandson loves the noise and the trains, planes, bikes (depending on the unit) and cars that glide on tracks along the ceiling.

Alice’s in the Park: Central Park in Huntington Beach. If you love tiny little family run places and huge out-of-this-world cinnamon rolls-you have to go to Alice’s. Believe me, you will need to walk the park several times to walk off the calories, but the place is terrific and worth every bite.

Cafe Neff: Laguna Niguel Design Center. Only open during this To The Trade areas hours of operation, but it’s staff and food is a favorite, not only with the designers and their clients, but with anyone who wants to do a more relaxed version of «the ladies who lunch», plus I’ve never had anything but absolutely delicious food. They have daily specials and scones of the morning. Maple bacon aroma is too die for! Coffee is quite good.

Ted’s Burgers: Just across the street from Cafe Neff in a strip mall, Ted’s is a local hangout. Everyone from families, to biker’s, senior citizens and law enforcement loves Ted’s breakfasts. Nothing to look at, but it’s all comfort food based. Portions are so large that even my husband doesn’t mind sharing a meal with me!

Pacific Whey Baking Company: four locations. Trendy, but excellent breakfasts and bakery choices. We love to share and ABC omelet and a chocolate pinwheel. While they do have an interesting lunch and dinner menu-trust me, stick to breakfast and desserts.

Corner Bakery: again, it’s a chain, but good food and choices. The outdoor seating at most locations make it perfect for one of our typical sunny California mornings. Ours is close enough and allows pooches on the patio, so we take our labrador mix for a walk there and back!

Hopefully, if you live close by you’ll seek out some of these breakfast treasures. And if you visit in the future, you look them up and give them a try

Flights to Delhi and the Indira Gandhi International Airport

Arguably the number one destination for flights to India from the UK is Delhi. Flights are now readily available from most UK international airports including:

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Glasgow
  • Leeds
  • Bradford
  • London Gatwick
  • London Heathrow
  • Manchester
  • Newcastle

Direct flights to Delhi from the UK should take between 8.5 hrs to 9.5 hours depending on your actual airport of departure, plus wind and weather conditions. Many flights offered online will not fly directly to Delhi but will involve at least one stop en-route, usually in the host country of the airline. The duration of these non-direct flights will of course be determined by the number and length of stops. Be sure to check the flight itinerary when booking your flight. Non-direct flights will often, but not always, be cheaper.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport – All UK to Delhi flights, will arrive at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), terminal 2. Renovation of the international terminal of Delhi Airport, is finally complete although many further improvements are planned. The airport has been notorious for the huge congestion, chaos, noise, slow progress and long queues. The private airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) claims that these issues are now a thing of the past. That however remains to be seen. I have heard that the number of immigration counters has now been increased but is still a bottleneck. More immigration officials have been employed in an effort to improve the problem. Likewise the number of departure check-in counters has gone up, but be sure to arrive in plenty of time. It is still unlikely that you will enjoy a quick passage through the airport whether arriving or departing. In the Arrival Visitors Area of the International Terminal you will find banks, bureaux de change and ATMs.

ATMs are also available within the domestic terminal if you are transferring to an internal flight. The Domestic Airport comprises of Terminal 1A, Terminal 1B and the domestic arrival terminal. Domestic flights of the Indian National Airlines and Alliance Air operate from Terminal 1A. Jet Airways, Air Sahara, executive aircraft and private aviation companies operate out of terminal 1B. You will find the Domestic Terminal is just 5km (3 miles) away from the International Terminal 2. A free bus service connecting the two operates every 30 minutes.

The city centre is 16 km (10 miles) from the airport. Airport buses leave for central Delhi, operating 24 hours a day and with a transfer time of approximately 45 minutes. Metered taxis can be found outside the airport, but in order to eliminate any uncertainty over fares, it could be considered preferable to use pre-paid taxis available via the taxi counter in arrivals. The journey time by taxi to the city centre is around 30 minutes.

Delhi is often seen as the gateway into India, but is worth considering as a destination for your holiday. There is much to do in and around the city and the surrounding areas. Places of interest abound, museums, ancient monuments and bazaars then in contrast, 21st century glass and steel shopping malls.

The T-Fal BeerTender Is the Perfect Way to Add Pub Style Draft to Your Home

Bring the pub experience home!

The T-Fal BeerTender for Heineken DraughtKegs is the one of the lower priced home tapping units for the Heineken mini kegs. Coming in at around $150.00 this small lightweight draft beer dispenser makes a great addition to any beer lovers kitchen, den, or game room.

Like most BeerTender appliances the T-fal unit features top mounted indicator lights that let you know when your mini keg is at the perfect temperature for your enjoyment. It is important to note that chilling a beer from room temperature to optimal tapping temp can take up to 10 hours so make sure you plan ahead before tapping the keg warm.

Current Limitations

The main drawaback for brew enthusiasts with any of the BeerTender units is its limited selection of beers that will work with the home taping system. As of now only the Heineken, Heinken Premium Light, and Newcastle Brown Ale kegs will work with the T-Fal.

Other 5 liter mini kegs cannot be tapped using this system as they are not co2 pressurized like the Heineken Draught keg. That is an important thing to note if you were planning on ordering some Bell’s Oberon to keep in your beer tap. To tap gravity fed mini kegs as well as Heineken brands look at the EdgeStar Mini Kegerator which features a co2 adapter to use standard 5 liter kegs.

Ease of Use

Installing and connecting your mini keg to the dispenser is super easy and will take almost no time at all. Just open the top, slide in your keg and attach the feed tube, that’s it. The T-fal and Krups units all are fairly simple to operate so don’t worry about any complicated connections or set up procedures.

Features

The T-fal BeerTender features stainless steel removable drip trays that handle your overflow and make clean up a breeze. A detachable pouring spout makes for easy cleaning as well but you will need to replace the Beertender tube lines with every new keg. You can find the tube packs in sets of 10 on Amazon, it is recommended to stock up on a bunch of them when you first order to save on shipping each time you need to re-order the tubes.

Treat yourself to the perfect pour

This is a great inexpensive toy for any beer lover that wants cold fresh beer on tap each and every day. Its small footprint and light weight makes it extremely portable so it’s great for BBQ’s and tailgates as well. The BeerTender is designed to pour your beer the right way with the perfect amount of head so you can truly enjoy the beer tasting experience.

Premier League Match Time: Chelsea Vs Sunderland

It’s Premier League match time at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea are set to host Sunderland in game-week thirteen.

Sunderland are coming off a 1-1 draw against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Steve Bruce’s squad equalised immediately following van der Vaart’s 64th minute strike to give Spurs the lead, the Black Cats will take courage from that performance ahead of their upcoming meeting with the Premier League champions. Asamoah Gyan scored his third goal in two starts and the Ghana skipper underscored how crucial he is going to be to Sunderland’s fortunes this season.

Between the Sunderland posts, Gordon, playing his first game of the season after recovering from a broken arm, was brilliant on the day, beginning with a third minute save that kept Luca Modric from putting Spurs ahead early. Later, Gordon stopped a Bentley strike on the stroke of half-time. Gareth Bale was off-colour and did not test Sunderland’s back-line.

Steve Bruce replaced Richardson with Malbranque and the move resulted in animmediate opportunity with a free kick awarded after Malbranque was brought down by Gomes just outside the box. Sunderland were lucky when Bentley was booked for diving after a challenge by Zenden inside the box, when it could easily have been a penalty in Spurs’s favour. That said, the Black Cats dominated a match they should have won.

Chelsea barely managed to eke out a win against a stolid Fulham on Wednesday. But the Stamford Bridge squad will be happy that they took full points and extended their lead over second placed Man United in the table, while exorcising the ghosts of Anfield where they lost to Torres-inspired Liverpool last week. Fulham owe it to Schwarzer between the posts for not having gone down by a bigger margin.

Chelsea kept the pressure up in the  first half after Essien put them ahead off a Malouda cross in the 31st minute. But Ancelotti’s charges came under immense pressure in the second half and only a goalkeeper of Cech’s calbre could have kept out the scoring opportunities Fulham created, especially an outstanding volley by Zoltan Gera in the 82nd minute that Cech punched clear.

Chelsea will be without Michael Essien in the weekend’s game against Sunderland; the Ghanaian was sent off late in injury time after a lunge on Fulham Dempsey.

Sunderland have drawn four of their matches on the road this season, while losing the other two to Newcastle and Wigan. Chelsea have had a perfect record at home, winning all six matches played at Stamford Bridge. Sunderland would do well if they snatched a point from Sunday’s game.

Sunderland’s starting eleven against Tottenham Hotspur comprised: Gordon, Onuoha, Turner, Bramble, Ferdinand, Henderson, Cattermole, Riveros, Richardson, Zenden and Gyan; Bardsley, Wellbeck and Malbranque took part as substitutes.

The following players were in Chelsea’s starting eleven against Fulham: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Essien, Mikel, Zhirkov, Kalou, Drogba and Malouda; Ramires, Sturridge and Ferreira were used as substitutes.

Good Food For Happy Workers With The Best Commercial Catering Equipment

Many years ago as can be seen in countless old movies, the canteens of factories and schools in the U.K. were grim affairs with overcooked food ladled out of giant aluminium pots onto the plates of people waiting to be shocked with yet another plate of indeterminable slops.

In more recent times employers have finally realised that well prepared good quality food at fair prices in pleasant surroundings pays dividends.

Commercial catering equipment in general is not just about having the latest ovens, fridges and preparation areas but it is also about all the other smaller details like quality cutlery, dishes, tables and chairs as well as a dozen other related finishing touches.

Whether it is in schools, factories airport or motorway service stations, the general public have become much more particular about efficiency and cleanliness as much as the quality of the food.

In motorway service stations all equipment in the kitchen area is of very high standards and are in full view of millions of customers throughout the year. Just fifty years ago anyone making a regular journey driving between London and Newcastle would have a choice of a roadside bacon butty wagon or a pub to call into for lunch. There was no other choice apart from these two options. Since those days the option of the pub has disappeared as the realization that drinking alcohol and driving was more likely to cause accidents became better understood.

The roadside bacon and sausage or full English fry up, also known as a ‘Greasy Spoon’ still holds a certain allure to some people and are to be found to this day. Fifty years ago the state of some of these establishments left a lot to be desired and as for commercial catering equipment this was prehistoric. One ‘chef’ with a cigarette hanging from the mouth dropping ash over the food would stand all day with a frying pan full of hot oil and a saucepan of baked beans. A giant kettle would simmer with boiling water ready to top up the big tea-pot full of well stewed tea bags.

Nowadays when traveling the same journey the customer can pull into one of many motorway service stations. Within these buildings are to be found the usual franchised purveyors of fast food all competing with one another and trying to attract the business of every customer walking through the entrance of the service station. The latest equipment in the kitchen is on display and the importance of fast, clean and polite service is all the hurried traveler is looking for.

Kitchen equipment has come a very long way since the days of a simple gas hob and heavy pots. The advancements in the equipment today is driven by the whole recent concept of fast food and the need to serve well prepared, well-cooked food safe for all consumption.

Premier League Match Time: Chelsea Vs Fulham

It’s Premier League match time at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as Chelsea host Fulham in this season’s 12th round of matches.

Chelsea are back from an away loss to Liverpool, only their second this season, where Torres celebrated a glorious return to form with two precision strikes that brought the Merseysiders back into the reckoning.

After the game, Ancelotti would have mulled over his team selection at Anfield where he opted to bench Didier Drogba. In the circumstances, the Blues found themselves with a two goal deficit at the break, and the Ivorian eventually replaced Salomon Kalou in the second half.

Drogba got an opportunity in the form of a free kick that he shot wide. Liverpool’s early strike dictated the rhythm of the game, and it gave the Merseysiders the confidence to call the shots in the first half. But the Reds appeared to lose nerve with about 25 minutes left in the game, and a strike by Chelsea at the time could have turned the game.

Anelka’s shot got under Raina and bounced up and rebounded off the underside of the crossbar in what was the closest Ancelotti’s charges came to scoring. Ramires, Zhirkov and Malouda also had chances go abegging, with Reina having a great day between the posts for Liverpool.

Chelsea need a fully fit Drogba in their line-up if they don’t want to burn out before the season is through. Also, Ancelotti must be looking forward to Lampard’s return to match fitness. In Lampard’s absence the lack of creatuvity in midfield is palpable. The likes of Ramires and Zhirkov are not good enough against quality opposition.

But Lampard is likely to be rested against Fulham as the Blues’ manager would want the midfielder fully fit for the Sunderland game.

Fulham have not won much after Mark Hughes became their manager. But they haven’t lost many either. The squad have become draw specialists, and they lived up to this reputation against Aston Villa when a late goal from Hangeland helped staved off what would have been the Cottagers’ second defeat of the season and salvage a point. Fulham have won just two matches this season and that places a question mark about their capacity to handle the better teams.

There was not much positive energy on display from Fulham in the Aston Villa game. Against Chelsea, they are likely to miss the absence of Zamora. While Chelsea have lost to their biggest rivals of the season thus far, in Manchester City and Liverpool, they have been clinical against lesser sides. The game against Fulham is likely to be no different.

Chelsea’s starting eleven in the Liverpool game comprised: Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Alex, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Zhirkov, Kalou, Anelka and Malouda; Sturridge, Bosingwa and Drogba played as substitutes.

The following players were in Fulham’s starting eleven against Aston Villa: Schwarzer, Baird, Hangeland, Hughes, Salcido, Davies, Greening, Murphy, Gera, Dembele and Dempsey; Johnson, Kelly and Duff featured as substitutes.

Shelved Premier League XI

If at the start of the season you told me that Flamini would be keeping one of the best holding midfielders out of the Gunners’ first team, I would have told you that you were as talented with your feet as Romario.

But Flamini, like many other young and upcoming players in the EPL, has performed consistently well thus far, keeping out his older, more experienced teammate.

So what other players have been warming the bench rather than running gracefully across the football pitch, contrary to what their hefty wage packets, honours and large transfer fees may otherwise suggest? Here’s our take on the best of the unused this season:

GK – Carlo Cudicini

Carlo, the Italian stallion, used to be one of the Prem’s best shot-stoppers. After the arrival of a young ‘keeper by the name of Petr Cech, the only thing Cudicini now stops is the cold from biting in while warming the bench.

DF – Wayne Bridge

Will he ever get a regular game at Stamford Bridge? One of England’s most talented defenders, the answer is most likely ‘no’ due to the arrival of Juliano Belletti.

DF – Linvoy Primus

A mainstay of the Pompey defence last season, but injury coupled with the solid partnership of Campbell and Distin has kept him out thus far.

DF – Robert Huth

Having had surgery performed on his ankle this summer, Robert Huth has been gradually working his way back up to full fitness. Will he be able to form a solid back pairing with Jonathan Woodgate? Time will tell.

MF – Andy van der Meyde

His time at Everton has hardly been a success. Failing to turn up for training sessions, rumours of alcoholism and bust-ups with the manager have severely limited the Dutchman’s chances of playing for Everton this season. Shame for a man who was a first choice for Holland during Euro 2004.

MF – Jimmy Bullard

Poor old Jimmy Bullard. Likes his fishing, just as well he has a hobby that takes up most of his days, seeing as how he hasn’t played since dislocating his knee against Newcastle last September. Ouch.

MF – Gilberto Silva

Amazingly, the Premier League’s Most Improved Player 07/08 (TM) Mathieu Flamini has kept out the Brazilian midfield maestro.

MF – Michael Ballack

He is injured, but will he be playing regularly alongside Lampard when he returns? £135,000 a week for a man who basically just turns up at Stamford Bridge to watch games seems a bit steep to me.

MF – Maceo Rigters

Performed brilliantly at the U21 European Champions for Holland, ending up in the competition’s team of the tournament. Secured a dream move to Blackburn, however has found first team chances limited due to the exploits of McCarthy and Santa Cruz.

ST – Peter Crouch

We could have put anyone in Liverpool’s team on here given Rafa’s rotating, but Crouchinho gets the nod due to his excellent strike rate, yet inability to get a regular start. Hopefully some recent excellent performances will help him back into the side.

ST – David Nugent

Turning up at a club, missing easy chances, and then having a naked mobile picture of your, ahem, ‘tackle’ posted on the Internet is hardly the way to impress your new employers. Don’t expect the promising striker to get in ahead of Benjani, Utaka or Kanu.
