Our coach, Carlo Ancelotti has done remarkably well this time around – you have been seeing the results, haven’t you? Did you not see what they did to Sunderland at the weekend? Only Tottenham Hotspur has surpassed that goal margin this season. I was afraid when the African Nations’ Cup Championship was about to commence in Angola; I thought that with the likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou going for national assignment we would be in a serious trouble, even my friends here have been telling me that Chelsea would certainly fall. Today, however, the ball game is entirely different- we are waxing stronger even in the absence of these guys – thanks to Roman Abramovich, Carlo Ancelotti, the seriousness of our boys, our sponsor (Samsung), our kit providers (Adidas) and your unflinching support. We shall surely get there again this year by the special grace of God.

We have not been doing badly. You still remember our records – League titles in 1954-55, 2004-05 and 2005-06; FA Cup in 1970, 1997, 2000, 2007 and 2009; League Cup in 1965, 1998, 2005 and 2007; FA Charity/FA Community shield in 1955, 2000, 2005 and 2009; Full Member Cup in 1986 and 1990; UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1971 and 1998 and UEFA Super Cup in 1998 – that is no mean achievement. We may not have gotten to where we are heading, I want to say we still have enough room to improve, and this year affords us yet another opportunity to add another trophy to our coffer. Stamford Bridge is set to play host to Stoke City, on Saturday, even as Chelsea look ahead to their third win in as many matches in the Premier League.

The champions are on a roll, with a half dozen goals scored, while conceding none, in each of the two matches they have played against West Brom Albion and Wigan Athletic, respectively.

While Chelsea are the only team to have registered victories in both their matches, Stoke City have lost both theirs, by an identical score-line of 2-1, to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.

But against Spurs, Stoke were unlucky not to have drawn the match, after being denied a goal by referee Chris Foy.

A win in the Carling Cup against Shrewsbury should ensure that Stoke enter Saturday’s match in a positive mood.

Carlo Ancelotti would be wary of complacency setting in, after huge wins against weak rivals, and Chelsea would do well not to lose focus, as consecutive matches against Manchester City, Aston Villa and Arsenal loom in September.

Rory Delap, Dean Whitehead and Glen Whelan are all midfielders who can be relied on to tackle hard.

In some bad news for Stoke, Mamaday Sidibie picked up an Achilles tendon injury, in the Spurs game, and that will keep him from turning up against Chelsea.

There’s consolation in the form of Kenwyne Jones and Jon Walters coming in to bolster the attack, alongside Ricardo Fueller.

What followed was one of the most incredible days in Premier League history.

Spurs started the game at breakneck speed and before United had time to deal with the pressure, they found themselves two goals in arrears, thanks to Dean Richards and Les Ferdinand. With emotions running high, he convinced his girlfriend that it would be a sound investment to put their entire mortgage on a Tottenham win. With a 3-0 half-time lead the odds would have been ridiculously low, perhaps 1.03, but put enough money down, and 3% suddenly becomes a nice little earner. What could possibly go wrong? They had recently purchased a house together and with his girlfriend’s blessing, he contacted his finance broker and the bet was placed. Their house was now riding on the outcome of the game.

The Incredible Comeback.

One can only imagine the nervous tension and excitement that accompanied our soccer punting hero as the second half kicked off. He was probably planning what lavish holiday they could take or what spending spree they could enjoy. As a staunch believer of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, I always take their criticisms lightly until the Gunners lost themselves in Britannia Stadium.

What Went Wrong

The same old question that I hate to answer but have haunted me more frequent recently. After their midweek nightmare against Spurs, Arsenal knew it was crucial to beat Stoke City but it has proved otherwise. Did we make any progress since 4 years ago? I bet we did but along the way we lost some. Perhaps, it is time to point fingers to who should take the blame after all we have lost three matches since and mind you, it is only November.

Maybe the whole world except Wenger knows that the Gunners have lost it long ago but the latter failed to realize it. So back to my question, who should take shoulder the fault? Is it Wenger who feels rotating players is a new trend, the players whom have lost their belief or the referees who are at risk of being bashed up in the streets of North London? To me, it could be either, neither or all of the above.

The DM factor

I think 99.99% of the gooners have been writing to any soccer websites that says «Buy a Midfielder» and hoping their prayers would be answered. Apparently, it has fallen deaf on Arsene Wenger’s ears. Ironically, the manager that I have always admired was the person who invented the idea of «pivotal midfield» during the days when Patrick Vieira was alive in Highbury and was largely successfully. Clueless as I am, why couldn’t Wenger repeat his baby?

We need to face the fact that our midfield dominance has been gone with the days of The Invincibles. Coming along is Gilberto Silva and Mathieu Flamini who managed to pick up some of the pieces but that is not enough to warrant a quality midfield. Denilson? Rome was not built in a day and what’s more telling 20year-old to who has less than a 100 league appearances to muster the midfield.

Defiant Wenger Not buying a midfielder. There is more than meet the eye; analysts suggested that Wenger is doing all what he can do to prepare Denilson to replace Fabregas if he decides to leave Arsenal.

Blessing in Disguise

Some say that recent losses could turn out to be Arsenal’s gain -the pressure for Wenger to buy players. Will it really turn out as it seems? I can’t tell for sure not at least when Mr. Wenger is still asleep. As mush as I fear, the Gunners will sink further into the bottomless pit if nothing is going to be changed.
